Interior Designer in Essendon.

Custom joinery, furniture selection and photorealistic renders - before a single tradesperson is booked.

Studio Carlyle is a boutique interior design studio working with Essendon homeowners on renovations, new builds and considered family homes. Our studio is in Moonee Ponds - just minutes from Essendon and we work with clients across the entire inner north-west.

Essendon is one of Melbourne's most architecturally diverse suburbs. From grand Edwardian homes along Buckley Street, to mid-century brick veneers in the quieter pockets, to contemporary new builds reshaping the streetscape - every Essendon home asks something different of its interior. We design for the home you have, not a template borrowed from somewhere else.

You’ll see It Before it is Built.

01 - Design & Renders. We develop your interior design concept and present it via high-quality photo realistic renders - so you can see exactly how your space will look. Materials, finishes, joinery and furniture, all in context, before any decisions are locked in.

02 -Physical Materials. Alongside your renders, we bring physical material samples to the table. You'll touch and see the actual timbers, fabrics, stones and hardware - not just pixels on a screen.

03 - Working Drawings. Only once you're confident in the design do we progress to detailed working drawings and coordinate with your tradespeople. No surprises, no expensive changes mid-build.

Frequently Asked Questions.

How much does interior design cost in Essendon?

Interior design fees in Essendon vary depending on the scope of your project, the size of your home, and the level of service you need. At Studio Carlyle, we work across a range of project scales - from single-room joinery and furniture briefs through to full whole-home interior design. We provide transparent fee proposals upfront so there are no surprises, and our process is structured to help you make confident decisions before any money is spent on trades or materials. The best starting point is a consultation where we can understand your brief and give you a clear picture of investment.

Do you work on Essendon period homes?

Yes - Essendon's Edwardian, Federation and Victorian homes are some of our favourite projects to work on. Designing for a period home requires a genuine understanding of its proportions, detailing and character. At Studio Carlyle we approach Essendon period renovations with care - whether that means working with original features and heritage overlays, or introducing contemporary elements that feel considered rather than jarring. Our bespoke joinery design is particularly well suited to period homes, where custom cabinetry and built-ins need to respond to existing architecture rather than fight against it.

Do you work on Essendon new builds?

Absolutely. New builds are an exciting opportunity to get the interior right from the very beginning, and Essendon has seen a wave of considered contemporary builds in recent years. Engaging an interior designer early in a new build - ideally before construction begins, gives you the benefit of integrated joinery, considered material palettes, and a home that feels cohesive rather than assembled. We work alongside builders, architects and clients on Essendon new builds across the suburb, from initial concept through to styling and installation.

What does the interior design process involve?

At Studio Carlyle, our process is built around giving you complete clarity before anything is built. We begin with a detailed consultation to understand your brief, lifestyle and budget. From there we develop a design concept and present it to you via high-quality photorealistic renders, alongside physical material samples so you can see and feel exactly how your space will look before any decisions are locked in. Only once you are fully confident in the design do we progress to working drawings and trade coordination. This render-first approach means fewer costly changes during construction and a much smoother build experience.

Do I need an architect before engaging an interior designer?

Not necessarily - it depends on your project. If you are undertaking structural work, an extension, or a new build, an architect or building designer will typically lead that process and Studio Carlyle works seamlessly alongside them to deliver the interior design scope. For renovations, joinery projects, furniture and styling briefs, or fit-outs that don't involve structural changes, you can engage Studio Carlyle directly without an architect involved. We are experienced in working both independently and as part of a broader consultant team, and we're happy to advise you on the right approach for your specific project during an initial consultation.

Can you work with my Essendon builder?

Yes - and we do it regularly. Studio Carlyle produces detailed working drawings and specifications that give your builder exactly what they need to price and execute the design accurately. We are experienced in collaborating with builders across Essendon and Melbourne's inner north and west, and we understand how to communicate design intent in a way that translates cleanly from concept to construction. If you don't yet have a builder, we are also happy to point you in the right direction based on your project type and budget.

How far is your studio from Essendon?
