Cafe Adamo.

Austin Hospital - Heidelberg, VIC

Cafe Adamo is a full redesign and refurbishment of a cafe inside Austin Hospital in Heidelberg. The brief was simple but ambitious: design a space that belongs in a hospital, without feeling like one.

Hospital interiors are, by necessity, clinical - designed for function over warmth. The cafe was an opportunity to offer something different, a moment of calm for visitors, staff and patients during long days inside the building. We approached it as we would any hospitality project, leading with atmosphere. Materials were chosen for their warmth and tactility, the lighting softened, and the layout planned to feel welcoming for a quick coffee or a longer stay. Durability, hygiene and accessibility were all factored in.

Services included commercial interior design, spatial planning, joinery design, materials specification and concept design documentation - delivering a complete design package ready for construction.

The project is currently in construction. When complete, Cafe Adamo will be a warm, considered addition to one of Melbourne's busiest hospitals.
